Repsol, the company promoting the initiative, announces an Open Innovation Challenge looking for robotics and automation for inspection, maintenance, and operation in energy assets.

Specifically, the following areas are identified as priority application domains for autonomous robotic solutions:

• Cleaning, inspection, and coating of atmospheric storage tanks.
• Subsea inspection focused on welds.
• Robotic welding of pipes and isometrics, both in workshop and field environments.

Objective

Repsol’s objective throughout the “Repsol Open Innovation Challenge on Robotics and Automation for Inspection, Maintenance, and Operation in Energy Assets” is to identify companies with which it can initiate a pilot project within a period of 3 to 6 months. If the pilot develops successfully, it may lead to follow‑up agreements involving significant scale‑up and the potential deployment of solutions across various Repsol assets at both national and international levels.

The proposed pilot, with a budget of up to €40,000, will allow the selected company to collaborate with professionals from the Repsol Technology Lab and/or Repsol’s industrial complexes to design and test a prototype in real operational environments. Subject to successful pilot results, further scaling agreements or long‑term collaboration opportunities may follow.
