Iberdrola Startup Challenge to Enhance the Resilience of the Electrical Infrastructure

Join Iberdrola’s global call for innovation and help shape the next generation of resilient electrical infrastructure.

Powered by PERSEO Ventures and the Global Smart Grids Innovation Hub, and in collaboration with BAT B Accelerator Tower, this challenge seeks cutting-edge solutions to strengthen grid resilience and accelerate the energy transition.
Precedents
As energy systems grow more complex and the world faces increasing environmental and technological pressures, the resilience of electrical infrastructure has become a global priority. Ensuring resilience is essential to maintain a stable and reliable power supply, minimize disruptions, and enable rapid recovery. This requires detailed asset information, awareness of potential threats, regular maintenance, and efficient incident management. Advanced technologies—such as AI, satellite imagery, and predictive analytics—are being tested to assess vegetation risks, forecast failures, and enhance operational resilience. Solutions that are effective, integrable, and mature enough for real-world application are prioritized.
About the Challenge
With the previous in mind, Iberdrola—together with PERSEO Ventures, the Global Smart Grids Innovation Hub, and in collaboration with BAT B Accelerator Tower—launches a new Startup Challenge to strengthen the electrical grid of the future.

With the launch of this challenge, Iberdrola is seeking innovative solutions to enhance the resilience of the electrical grid using advanced computing techniques. The challenge focuses on both pre-incident and post-incident scenarios related to extreme weather events (e.g., floods, snowstorms, tornadoes).

• Pre-incident efforts include simulating climate impacts, quantifying asset vulnerability, and optimizing grid design.
• Post-incident efforts involve prioritizing incident resolution, deploying backup power, and managing real-time navigation issues.

Proposed solutions must be integrable, scalable, effective, cost-efficient, and capable of optimizing emergency response while promoting workforce awareness and leveraging cutting-edge technologies.

In conclusion, this global call invites startups and tech companies to propose innovative, scalable solutions that can strengthen the grid and accelerate the energy transition.

The goal: to co-create real-world pilots with Iberdrola and build the next generation of smart, robust, and future-ready infrastructure.
